Grading Policy
Please check Parent Portal for current scores. Grades are updated weekly and can be improved with extra student effort. For example, if any score is below 75%, it may be corrected and resubmitted for grading within one week of the due date and can earn a score up to 89%. Grades are finalized on the last day of each quarter. Until then, grades can and do change!
Late Work: Any assignments that are not received on the day that they are due will receive a reduced score depending on quality and number of days late and will be labeled as "Late" in the grade book.
Test Corrections: Tests that earn scores below 75% may be retaken by the student within one week of the original test date to receive a grade of up to 89%. Please remind your student of the importance to study prior to the test!
Graded Papers: All work should have a teacher comment, star, or grade on it. If a paper comes home without a grade, star, or comment, please send it back as a double check to be sure it was recorded in the grade book. Sometimes students think they have turned something in, but have not yet done so.
Most assignments are graded using the traditional percentage scale. Some assignments will be counted as credit/no credit, and some will be scored using an effort rubric. The effort rubric reflects the following scale:
Excellent (4): The student consistently meets and at times exceeds (more depth/extension with grade level work and/or performing at a higher grade level) the standard as it is described by the grade level standards. The student, with relative ease, grasps, applies the key concepts, processes and skills for the grade level. The student's work is comparable to the student models and rubrics that are labeled Advanced. Work is turned in on time and at least 85% accurate.
Good (3): The student consistently meets and at times exceeds the standard as it is described by the grade level key standards. The student demonstrates proficiency in the vast majority of the grade level key standards. The student, with limited errors grasps and applies the key concepts, processes and skills for the grade level. The student's work is comparable to the student models and rubrics that are labeled Proficient. Work is turned in on time and is at least 70% accurate.
Needs improvement (2): The student is beginning to and occasionally does meet the standard as it is described by the grade level key standards. The student is beginning to grasp and applies the key concepts, process and skills for the grade level but produces work that contains many errors. The student's work is comparable to the student models and rubrics that are labeled Approaching. Work is late and/or needs corrections of at least 50% of the assignment.
Unacceptable (1): The student is not meeting the standard as it is described by the key standards for this grade level. The student's work is comparable to the student models and rubrics that are labeled Below. Work is late and is less than 50% accurate.
